Take A Nap With Your Coffee

For most of us, coffee is there for us when we are at our most weary.


Indeed, caffeine helps wake us up and it keeps us alert, so the idea of combining it with a nap seems slightly nonsensical.


Or does it?


Well, according to science, it would seem that coffee and napping are in fact perfect bedfellows.


So if you’re feeling sleepy during the middle of the day, listen to the men and women in white coats and do both!


Sound crazy?


Well, let us explain…


The Science

In your body, there are compounds called adenosine and adenosine receptors.


When you use your body’s energy, the two combine and make you feel tired and drowsy.


Caffeine


However, when caffeine enters the equation, the adenosine receptors instead want to bine with the caffeine particles, which, in turn, makes your body feel less drowsy.


This, very simply, is how caffeine works in your body.


Napping


Now, let’s move on to napping…


Sleeping clears adenosine, but if you sleep for more than 20 minutes, your brain goes into a much deeper sleep, which means that your body will need more time to recover.


Thus, 20 minutes is the perfect amount of time to ‘reboot’ your brain.


Connecting the two


So, do you see how effective combining coffee and napping can be?


Firstly, it takes about twenty minutes for caffeine to kick in and remove your drowsiness.


Secondly, napping for twenty minutes is the perfect time to clear adenosine.


Therefore, when it’s time to wake up from a twenty minute powernap, your brain can take advantage of the best of both worlds!


So, next time you feel your body needs a nap, don’t forget to have a quick coffee first, it’s science!


The equation is:


Coffee + Twenty Minute Nap = Super Alertness!
