What do you love about being on the Cafe2U team?

I love being part of a highly professional Cafe2U team. The training my team has received, the ongoing support and of course the great tasting products, coffee, drinking chocolate etc. Also, I love making my own business decisions and being my own boss. Most of all I love talking with people on my daily rounds.

What did you do before Cafe2U?

I worked for a disability service for 13 years, most of that time in a sales role bringing work into four factories, which employed up to 400 employees with a disability. Before that, again in a sales role with San Remo Macaroni Company for 9 years. 15 years service with Coles Supermarkets, working my way up to a Store Manager.

What's your favourite Cafe2U moment?

At a recent event, working alongside my wife, step-son and son. It’s helped us all grow together as a family. At the same time we were delivering a well needed service to our local Soccer Club.

What's your favourite Cafe2U drink?

Latte Delight.

What do you do to be involved in your local community?

I am a member of the Narraweena Social Action Group and Byrnellifal Family Group from St John’s Catholic Church Narraweena.

On Christmas Day Michael and his wife, Maria attended the Wayside Chapel in Sydney where they spent the day making coffees for the 700 odd people who gathered to enjoy a meal together for Christmas.

"Dear Michael,

You did an astonishing job on Xmas day; sorry I did not predict how popular you would be. You added so much to the event, thank you. I will follow through in January to arrange formal thank yous for you and your suppliers. I am also happy to go out and do this in person if you think this would be the best way. Happy new year."  Stephanie - Wayside Chapel"

Lighting up for Christmas, Borgnis Street, Davidson was ablaze with Christmas Lights as residents held their annual Christmas Lights fundraiser, raising in excess of $30,000 for Bear Cottage! This was Michael's 3rd year working at Borgnis Street.

Thank you to the wonderful residents, Belrose and Frenchs Forest Rotary, as well as the local Lions Club for their support!

"Apparently 12 years ago two couples had decided to try and out-do each other with their Christmas lights and it had a knock-on effect with the rest of the street. A few years later people started putting cash into their letter boxes as a way of saying 'thank you'. So four years ago it was agreed that they would officially collect money for Bear Cottage in Manly (a residential holiday house for sick kids and their families) and now you can find fluoro-jacketed rotary club volunteers collecting money every night in Borgnis St for a month over the Christmas period."

Wayside Chapel Grand Opening

The Cafe2U banner was held high at the Grand Opening of the Wayside Chapel which marked the completion of revamping the building. Cafe2U Cromer-Dee Why contributed to this wonderful cause by donating their services and making coffees during the event. A gold coin donation was given back to Wayside Chapel for all coffees sold.

For the actual event, the streets were closed and there was a great party atmosphere. A variety of activities took place on the day and included tours of the refurbished building, lunch, engaging and uplifting performances by the Honeybees Choir with street dancers dancing in the street at the end of the day. Some top celebrities were also present and actress Claudia Karvan was the Master of Ceremonies.

“For me this is one of the best parts of being a Franchise Partner with Cafe2U. It allows me to give a little bit back to organisations and charities and help those who are not so well-off in our community” says Michael Dolahenty, Cafe2U Cromer-Dee Why, NSW.

To add to this, Michael claims that he has received one of the best gifts ever … the gift of truly making a difference in someone else’s life, no matter how big or small the donation – every bit counts!
