What's your Business & New Year's Resolution?

Tony recently featured in an article in the January 2012 edition of Dynamic Business Magazine where a variety of SME owners were asked what they've learnt about their business in 2011 and to share their New Year's resolutions for 2012. Here's what Tony, Cafe2U Geebung, had to say:
"Cafe2U Geebung is owned and operated by my wife Allison and I. 2011 has been a hectic year, outgrowing our expectations by forging great relationships with our customers. We started the year with a sound base of stops and regular customers but needed to increase both. Our plan was to ensure the high quality of product and services we have been supplying and improve our digital footprint to ensure future customers can find us and existing customers can have more contact with our business.

Our digital footprint was increased by revamping our partner page on the Cafe2U website and ensuring this page was kept up to date. Further to this we started a social media program with a Twitter account, a Facebook account and finally a LinkedIn account."

February
All our customers got a little surprise on Monday 14th February 2011 Valentine’s Day. They all received a wrapped chocolate heart in Cafe2u red.
As we say they will never know what is going to happen at the back of our van, we keep them guessing which keeps them coming out to buy coffee. The chocolates came soon after “Fortune Cookies” which we gave out to about forty of our best customers for the start of the Chinese New Year.
A little known fact about the Fortune Cookie is the recipient should consume the entire Cookie before reading the fortune to ensure it will come to pass.
Can’t wait for Easter or what else could be around the corner.

Cafe2U Geebung Goes to the Dogs!
Well, we are serving them as they like our coffee as much as their owner. Tracy from Austrialian Packers and Creaters at Geebung has become a very valued customer along with her dog Dolly pictured enjoying her daily “Puppy Chino” lossely based on a Baby Chino but with a tiny amount of expresso coffee, lots and lots of eightys foam and layers of chocolate dusting.
Dolly enjoys a morning coffee with Tracy each morning she is at work, Tracy has gone to buying two coffees lately as she is tired of getting to the bottom of the cup and finding she has finished and still wanting more.
We often get a call back for an afternoon coffee from Tracy, but Dolly is only a morning coffee dog but her partner in crime Darcy, pictured below Tracy’s arm loves to help out and join in by having his afternoon coffee.
It just goes to show that Cafe2u will go to any length to supply great coffee to all customers

Brisbane Floods 2011
The week before the Cafe2u National Leadership Conference Brisbane was experiencing its worst flooding since 1974, water receded late in the week and the clean-up begun on the weekend with the “Mud Army”. Allison and I planned to assist both victims of the flood and those helping in the clean-up by supplying great Cafe2u Coffee. On the Wednesday afternoon we started in the Milton area just down the road from Suncorp Stadium and the XXXX Brewery, hoping to lift some sprits with some great coffees; we made about 50 to 60 coffees and a number of frappes.
Our first port of call was Epic Cycles one of my bike shops which had been flooded to about 50cm below the second floor. I met John the owner of Epic Cycles in my previous life as a Paramedic with the Queensland Ambulance Service, where I supplied ambulance coverage for an ongoing Bicycle Queensland event, a 9 day tour of regional area of Queensland for a number of years; John supplied the support for the bicycles on this event.

John and his staff first moved all his stock to the top floor in preparation for the flood, but when advice was given that this flood would be higher than 1974 they then again moved it all out of the shop to higher ground. The picture above was taken at the height of the flood.
John also told us of other businesses in the area that were a lot worse off then they were, this lead to finding a number of groups of people appreciating our efforts.
People had lots of support over the weekend most with sausage sizzles, cans of drink and bottled water, but this had slowed down through the week and by the time we arrived they were starting to feel flat with the mountain of work still in front of them. Many had not had a coffee or tea in four or five days and had missed this pleasure we all take for granted and were so pleased to take us up on our offer.
On the following Saturday Epic Cycles held a flood sale, John said he would rather sell the stock then move it again, so repairs could be undertaken in the shop. The sale was conducted with a sausage sizzle and supported by our van with all the takings for the day to be donated to the Queensland Premiers Flood Appeal. In total we raised over $1000.00 on the Saturday.

It was heart-warming to see people say “keep the change” when buying coffee and paying with $20 notes, there was a lot of coffee purchased at the price we should get for such an award winning coffee an average of $10 to $15 for a regular cup.
Allison posed for a picture with one of Brisbane famous chefs, he had been out walking his dog with his partner when he noticed our van and had Cafe2u coffee previously and even tho he had just finished a coffee from another supplier he lined up for one of ours.

After the day at Epic we continued around other areas of Brisbane again supplying coffee and frappes to residents and workers in affected areas and again around 60 cups.
We have been so lucky that our home and work area had not been effected by the floods in any way and were glad that we could help out people with such a simple thing as a cup of coffee that was seen as something more than just a cup of coffee. The silver lining from this flood for our business was a number of companies and government departments actually moved employees out to offices and depots in our area so our daily sales moved in a very positive direction.
We would like to thanks Parmalat for the milk which had been donated to our franchise.
