What's New

April 2012

Cafe2U Melrose Park attended the Clipsal 500 for the second year, on March 1-4. It was another big year with lots of Ford v Holden action and great concerts including INXS, Vanessa Amarossi, Good Charlotte and The Living End. Cafe2U was kept busy serving coffee to eager racegoers and once again got great feedback and appreciation of good quality coffee being available trackside!

In between making great coffees, Markus took some photos to share.

Brighton Jetty Classic

Cafe2U Melrose Park attended the 2012 Channel 7 Brighton Jetty Classic - the largest open water swim in South Australia.  Unfortunately, for the first time in 7 years, the event was cancelled due to heavy rain which made for very dangerous conditions in the water. More than 2000 people still attended however and Cafe2U took refuge from the wind and rain in the Brighton Surf Life Saving Club in the morning. When the sun finally decided to come out, we moved over to the reserve where a range of activities were hosted including sausage sizzles and appearances from Home & Away stars.

December 2011

The Lights of Lobethal

Cafe2U Melrose Park got into the Christmas spirit this year at the annual Lights of Lobethal festival, in the Adelaide Hills. The festival has been running for over 60 years and is the largest community Christmas light display in the Southern Hemisphere.

Homes and businesses are lit up for visitors to enjoy throughout the town, and there are also many stalls, markets and events throughout the lead up to Christmas. A spectacular array of light displays are featured and this event attracts a large volume of visitors to the area, generating an ongoing economic return for local businesses and stallholders as visitors return to the area to visit local attractions.

We really look forward to being part of this event again! Ho Ho Ho!

Cafe2U Adelaide Christmas Dinner

The Cafe2U crew in Adelaide got together for an inaugural Christmas Dinner - nearly everyone turned out and we discussed the highlights of the Cafe2U year! It was a great get-together and a good way to end off 2011.

'Heavenly Sounds' Tour - Flinders Street Baptist Church

Cafe2U Melrose Park was at the 'HEAVENLY SOUNDS' TOUR broadcast event on Friday the 2nd of December.  Sarah Blasko, Sally Seltmann and Holly Throsby's collaboration 'Seeker Lover Keeper' performed at the Flinders Street, Baptist Church as part of their Heavenly Sounds national tour. The unique tour has taken place in Australia's most beautiful and historic cathedrals and churches, and wound up in the City of Churches.

Cafe2U provided thirsty patrons with coffee, soft drinks and snacks, on the footpath of Flinders Street. It just goes to show that Cafe2U truly is a mobile supreme bean machine!

November 2011

Paspaley Polo in the City - Victoria Park

For the first time, Cafe2U was part of the national Polo In the City series, set in Adelaide at the historic Victoria Park. Featuring international stars such as Sam Hopkinson and other Australian polo professionals, the park turned into a polo field. The event was open to those in the corporate marquees, as well as the general public. Cafe2U was side line to all the action!

Le Cornu Family Fun Days

Cafe2U Melrose Park was part of some of the Le Cornu Family Fun Days, which saw the Keswick store turn into a mini showground over 2 weekends in October. It was free admission for all and entertainment was provided by Peter Combe, the Griffini Circus Show and Groovy Chicks and Pirate Ships, with a whole host of roving entertainment and games. Also present at the event were sausage sizzles, coloured hairspray, cupcake decorating, life-sized games, gnome painting and Cafe2U coffee, of course!

Parkinson's Unity Walk 2011

Cafe2U Melrose Park was at the Unity Walk on Sunday the 25th September, on the Torrens Riverbank, Elder Park. Hosted by Parkinson's South Australia and now in its 2nd year, the walk is their largest annual event. It is also a national event, held in Brisbane, Canberra, Perth, Melbourne and Sydney.

Adelaide turned on a beautiful sunny spring day.  Graeme Goodings from Channel 7 was MC and there was live music, roving entertainment, a second hand book stall, sausage sizzle, raffles and face painting for children.

The Unity Walk raises awareness and significant funds to help in the fight against Parkinson's disease. Participants increased in numbers this year, with over 440 people, including the Governor walking on behalf of someone living with Parkinson's.  People with Parkinson's were also remembered by participants wearing the Parkinson's SA 2011 Unity Walk 'Honour Card' with their loved one's name, photo and a message.  Fundraising through participants' sponsorships on the day will go towards helping Parkinson's SA deliver support programs, services and advocacy to people living with Parkinson's.

Cafe2U contributed towards the fundraising and was proud to be part of such a great day!

August 2011

Jodie's Belly Billboard

Cafe2U Operators in Adelaide decided to get behind the refit of the Neo Natal Unit at the Flinders Medical Centre by biddding and winning the rights to appear on Jodie's Belly Billboard for a week. This fundraising event was hosted on Mix 102.3 FM.

Cafe2U was also advertised on air for the week and on top of the sponsorship amount, Cafe2U Operators collected extra funds which resulted in a total of $1800 being raised.

Mothers Day Classic - Adelaide, SA

Cafe2U Melrose Park, along with other Cafe2U partners in Adelaide was proud to be a part of a national effort, which saw Cafe2U come on board as a silver sponsor at this year's Mother's Day Classic event, which took place on Sunday the 8th of May.

A chilly and early start to the morning turned into a fantastic day.

In exces of 8000 people turned out at Adelaide's Elder Park to join the fun-run and walk which raises money for breast cancer research. The event was a success on a national level, raising a record $3 million this year.

Participants and supporters a like, enjoyed the fantastic coffee on offer pre and post the event. Cafe2U Melrose Park was honoured to be able to contribute to such a worthy cause. Click the image below to find out more about this fantastic event.

Rock 'n Roll Rendezvous

Cafe2U Melrose Park was happy to be part of the 2011 Rock 'n Roll Rendezvous which took place at the National Motor Museum in Birdwood. The 20th anniversary Rendezvous drew a crowd of over 5, 500 and saw 464 vehicles entered. The weather was brilliant and the live music even better. Glenn Sharrock performed classic rock 'n roll hits and got the dance floor rocking!

The Adelaide Rock 'n Roll Club and Elizabeth Grove School also performed rock 'n roll dance demonstrations. Cafe2U joined in on the Rock 'n Roll mood by dressng up for the era and kept dancers and spectators alike, rocking on with delicious hot beverages and ice cold frappe drinks.

March 2011

Clipsal 500

Cafe2U Melrose Park was proud to be part of this year's Clipsal 500 Adelaide V8 Supercar Carnival. A round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series, the Clipsal 500 is the largest domestic motorsport event in Australia. In its thirteenth year now, the Clipsal 500 takes place over 4 days in the Adelaide parklands and this year 270,000 race goers pass through the gates between March 17 - 20.

The Clipsal 500 Adelaide has been recognised four times in the "Major Festivals & Events" category at the Australian Tourism Awards (2003/04, 2005, 2007 and 2008), demonstrating the event is more than a motor race!

The Clipsal 500 Adelaide is held as two 250-kilometre heats, providing twice the action on the demanding 3.22 kilometre street circuit. Off the track, there is plenty of entertainment with free on-circuit concerts and a spectacular fireworks display. Another big part of the event is the air displays with top line military aircraft from the Australian Defence Force - leaving the ears ringing and the van rocking after they had flown overhead!

The Clipsal 500 Adelaide is a week-long kaleidoscope of some 90 individual events including a Ladies Day Luncheon, charity luncheons with V8 Supercar drivers, driver autograph sessions, beach and fashion parades, exotic vehicle displays, sideshows, family entertainment and much more.

Cafe2U Melrose Park had a successful and fun 4 days at the Clipsal 500. People reported they had searched the track for delicious coffee, and were happy when they found Cafe2U. Another highlight was Sally (Markus's offsider) meeting Altiyan Childs - last year's colourful X Factor winner, who was on his way to perform at the track! Altiyan was kind enough to stop, say hello and have his pic taken with Cafe2U Melrose Park.

Although we were busy bees making coffee and drinks for all the thirsty racegoers, we were told that Holden's Jamie Whincup once again took out the honours at this year's Clipsal 500.

Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon

The Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon is being held in different cities around Australia between January and May this year. For Adelaide's turn, Midcourse Reserve in West Lakes was the venue for the event on Sunday the 6th of February. The biggest of its kind world-wide, Cafe2U Melrose Park was privileged to be asked to be a part of this huge event, which was SOLD OUT.

The event started with a 7am registration. The TRYathlon itself involved a swim leg, followed by a cycle leg and finally the run. It finished up at 11:30am with a prize giving where the kids were given a medallion and a certificate.

Cafe2U Melrose Park arrived earlier at around 6am in order to set up for the big event. I was given a helping hand by my fiancé (offsider) Sally. It was a huge event, with thirsty parents and volunteers lining up for delicious coffee and hot beverages while watching the kids participate in this fantastic event. Sally and I felt as though we ourselves had rund a marathon by the end of the event!

We had an absolute blast at the event and really enjoyed the fun and family atmosphere generated by the event, while serving coffee in between. Cafe2U Melrose was honoured to be part of the 2011 Weet-Bix Kids TRYathalon!

Tandanya Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Arts Fair

On the 22nd and 23rd of October I was booked via the Cafe2U website for the annual Tandanya Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Arts Fair.

The Tandanya Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Arts Fair is a unique annual event, bringing together over 40 artists from across the state.

Visitors have the opportunity to meet Indigenous artists, see them at work, learn the stories behind the paintings and craftworks, and purchase art directly without gallery commission. There are also demonstrations of traditional crafts by elders, workshops in which adults and children can participate, and a full music and dance program all for free. The two days are a wonderful cultural celebration in the beautiful setting of the park adjoining Tandanya.

It is a great opportunity to learn more about one of the oldest living cultures in the world and to purchase a truly Australian, truly unique gift or artwork. A very family friendly event.

It was a free event and I had a successful 2 days, with great weather and great people.

They have booked me for another two events in January and February.
