About the Cafe2U Mobile Cafe Franchise
Cafe2U is proud to be the pioneer of the mobile cafe industry. Cafe2U launched its first prototype mobile cafe van in the year 2000 on Sydney's northern beaches. It was with this first vehicle that the mobile cafe franchise concept and potential profitability of this new style of business model were tested.
In 2004 Cafe2U was purchased by its current owners, and a strategy was implemented to fully franchise the business. A General Manager was appointed to manage this process. This process involved restructuring and repositioning the business for longevity, making it suitable for the UK and N European market. This process included the design and feel of the brand itself, the development of the culture and the core values of the brand, defining the key products offered within the model, the development of the franchise documentation, operational manuals and territory modelling systems, as well as Franchise Partner training modules and system food safe accreditations.
In 2005 the mobile cafe franchise model was complete and Cafe2U was relaunched in the Australian market. At that time Cafe2U had 12 Franchise Partners, all of which were Sydney based. During 2005 Cafe2U commenced a proof of concept in Leeds, England with a view to expand the brand internationally.
In 2006 the UK Cafe2U team recruited a dedicated Franchise Development Manager to train and support mobile cafe franchises in their businesses. Recruitment of a dedicated Marketing Manager to assist in the continued development of the brand and an Events Coordinator occurred late in 2007.
By the end of 2006 the Cafe2U Franchise Partner family had grown to 50 in Australia and 6 in the UK.
In December 2006 Cafe2U was rated as one of Australia’s top 7 franchise systems by the Financial Review ‘Smart Investor’ based purely upon Franchise Partner return on investment. This was a result of an independent rating of over 600 Australian franchise systems.
In 2007 Cafe2U UK appointed an Operations manager and doubled the FDM personnel to cater for the increase in new franchise launches in the UK.
In January 2009 Cafe2U was listed in the Business Review Weekly (BRW) Fastest 100 franchise systems, as well as being featured, for the second time, on BBC2’s Working Lunch business program.
In July 2009 Cafe2U launched its proof of concept into California, USA, 21 outlets in the UK and the first in Ireland.
In November 2009, Cafe2U was awarded best in class award by the UK Beverage Service Association, for the third consecutive year.
In December 2009, and 2010, Cafe2U was awarded the ‘Best Value Franchise System’ by AFR’s Smart Investor Magazine, out of more than 1000 contendors.

During 2010, and 2011 Cafe2U continued to expand its brand, as well make improvements to the operatoinal aspects of the business model to improve profits for franchise partners and operating guidelines.
September 2010 - David Downie joined Cafe2U UK as Non-Exec Chairman, bringing board level experience from companies like ASDA, Phones4U, and HSS Hire.
September 2011 - Cafe2U again topped the polls in the BSA awards, with 7 franchisees gaining recognition, and Laura (Cafe2u Aberdeen) being commended for her outstanding service at the BSA awards ceremony in London.
October 2011 - Cafe2U appointed Will Vernon as its new Operations Director.
There are currently over 150 Franchise Partners operating across UK, Ireland, Australia and the USA.
