- Discovered by a goat
Coffee was first discovered by a goat! A young goat herder by the name of Kaldi in the 9th century, noticed his goats acting in a strange way when they ate the cherries from the coffee tree, so he tried it for himself.
- Light coffee has more caffeine than dark coffee
Contrary to popular belief light roasted coffee actually has more caffeine than dark roasted coffee. The reason being, the longer the coffee is roasted the more caffeine cooked out of the bean.
- Over 50 species
There are over 50 species of coffee worldwide. Though only 2, arabica and robusta are commonly used in coffee production.
- 500 billion cups
Over 500 billion cups of coffee are drunk each year and over half of this fugure are drunk at breakfast.
- Second most traded commodity
Coffee is the most traded commodity in the world, secondly only to oil.
